Availability and certification

KEYVOX is a Japanese manufacturer. Hardware and software have different availability, and confusing them wastes everyone's time — so here is the position up front.

Hardware (QR1 LE, BR1, WD1, BX1, lockers)
Certified for Japan only, under the MIC technical conformity mark (技適). FCC, CE, UKCA, RCM and IMDA certifications are not held, so the hardware is not sold outside Japan today. If you are evaluating for a site in Japan, everything on this page applies as written.
Cloud platform, UnlockOS and REST API
No such restriction. The software side is used with locks already installed on site, including third-party locks such as CANDY HOUSE SESAME, igloohome and Akuvox.
Third-party lock support
Added model by model, not by brand. Ask about the specific lock model you have rather than assuming it is or is not supported.

Proven with MIWA, Lavish, Bunka Shutter and Shikoku Kasei. Per-door units are individually addressable, so one shutter door per contact output.

  • Water droplets on the reader lens can prevent a QR code from being decoded. For outdoor QR authentication, fit a canopy or otherwise install so that the camera stays dry.
  • Powered operation and battery operation differ in capability: remote unlocking is available only when powered, and on batteries history sync and key delivery run on a schedule instead of in real time.

Installation

Installation requirements

Check these before quoting. They are the conditions that decide whether a door can take KEYVOX at all.

Mounting the QR1 LE

QR1 LE mounts on the frame side of the opening, not on the door leaf, so no power or cabling crosses the door. Three mounting methods are supported.

Wall opening for QR1 LE: 83.5 mm screw pitch, 51 × 95 mm cutout, 2Φ conduit hole.
Switch box
Use a standard box with an 83.5 mm screw pitch. Follow the box instructions for the opening. Run conduit of at least 20 mm through the wall to the power location, then pull the USB power cable out of the back of QR1 LE and through the conduit.
Direct wall opening
Either fit a scissor bracket with an 83.5 mm screw pitch, or cut a cable-only opening. Cutout for the scissor bracket is 51 × 95 mm; the conduit hole is 2Φ. Fix with screws or double-sided tape.
Surface raceway
Take the USB cable out of the raceway groove on the bottom of the unit — there is a groove on the bottom only — and run it in surface trunking to the outlet.
Power reach
The supplied USB cable is 3 m. If the outlet is farther than 3 m, use the optional 6 m adapter (BCL-ADQR).
Outlets
When powering QR1 LE from BR1, provide one AC100V outlet for BR1. When powering them separately, provide a second AC100V outlet.

Mounting height

Adjust to the height of your users. The most common setting puts the centre of the middle hole of the QR1 LE bracket 1,200 mm above the finished floor.

PiACKII deadbolt requirements

PiACKII replaces the interior thumb-turn on a MIWA deadbolt and keeps the physical key cylinder in place. Four conditions must all be met.

Radio requirements

These are the conditions that most often fail a site survey. Measure before you quote.

Wi-Fi
2.4 GHz Wi-Fi at -70 dBm or better is required outside the door, at the QR1 LE position.
Bluetooth — acceptance criterion
-70 dBm or better between QR1 LE and the paired device, measured with the door both fully closed and fully open.
Bluetooth — design distance
Within 50 cm for QR1 LE to PiACKII. Within 2 m for QR1 LE to BR1. No steel or concrete between the two units.
Environments that usually fail
Steel doors and concrete walls generally do not meet the radio requirement. Congested RF environments such as major terminal stations and exhibition halls may not operate reliably. Contact support before committing to these sites.

Contact output and emergency access

How the contact signal behaves, and what you must provide alongside it.

Contact signal duration
2 seconds by default, configurable between 2 and 20 seconds. Contact KEYVOX support to change it.
Contact type
Voltage-free A contact (NO) or B contact (NC). Connect to the controller with 2-core AE0.9 cable, not supplied.
Emergency access
Agree an emergency unlocking method with the electric lock or automatic door manufacturer and the installer — for example an emergency release button — for the case where the door cannot be unlocked.

The three supported configurations, with the interface between each pair of components.

QR1 LE + BR1 — electric lock or automatic door over Wi-Fi

Wireless between the reader and the module. Suitable where running LAN to the door is impractical.

  1. BCL-QR1 LE

    Weatherproof reader and keypad, mounted on the frame side. Powered from BR1 with the supplied 3 m USB cable, or directly from AC100V. Also runs on 4 × AA batteries.

QR1 LE + WD1 — electric lock or automatic door over wired LAN

Fully wired. Highest stability, and PoE lets the module share a network run with other equipment.

Retrofits an existing MIWA deadbolt without removing the key cylinder.

  1. BCL-QR1 LE

    Mounted outside the door. Powered by the supplied 3 m USB cable or the optional 6 m adapter, or run on 4 × AA batteries.

Locks and lockers share one REST API, so an entrance door and a locker can be driven by the same credential.
